I thought I would try some bleach discharging
again this morning.
Yesterday I did a few pieces
and didn't have much luck.
I decided to try something new....
new for me anyway.
I wanted to use some of my own hand dyed fabric
for this project,
instead of the black fabric
that is typically used in this technique.
I drew out a phoenix
onto a piece of freezer paper,
ironed it onto the fabric, and
hung it
in my laundry room.
I put something underneath
to catch the drips.
Then I mixed up a 50/50 mix
of bleach and water
in a spray bottle.
I sprayed the fabric with the mixture
and let it sit
until I thought it was bleached out
enough to where I could
see the design
against the background.
Here are the results....
I am very pleased with the results.
Now I want to do some stitching and more hand work
to finish it off.
Below is another piece that I did
using black fabric
and round circles of different sizes.
I wanted it to look like space,
with the planets and stars.
It's okay, but I like the dyed piece much better.
Well, I'm off to my yoga class.
Go...
Savor the Day!

I love the phoenix!
This has a lot of possibilities. I like it! Thanks for sharing
I love it. Did you have to use something to stop the bleaching process? I read somewhere that it continues to react with the fabric I guess until it is washed out. I would think that would stop it, right? Well I love the technique and what you did with both pieces. The stars and planet one is going to be very interesting to watch it the progress. :)Bea
I just love that dyed piece!
Yvonne, A big thank you for the link front and center!!!!
Stretch for me madame...I have not played with bleach discharge for quite a while but I dug out my old 1994 Jane Dunnewold Complex Cloth to add to my Art Cloth text that arrived this week. Have a great weekend! Imagine and Live in Peace, Mary Helen Fernandez Stewart

I haven't seen you for some time now. Hope to bump into you soon.
