Happy Tea Tuesday!
The past few mornings,
I have sat out by the garden,
drinking tea and reading.
A friend of mine recently let me borrow a book
by an author I had not heard of....Steven Bodio.
The book is called
'Querencia'.
The word 'querencia',
I have learned,
is hard to translate.
It is a place....
it is a feeling....
all in one.
Mainly it is where you feel safe and good.
Animals have querencia,
and so do we.
to read a very good description of the word
and to find and describe your own querencia.
To me it is a metaphysical concept
of wanting to feel safe in something,
whether it be a physical place,
or something you do,
like writing, art, etc.
Where do you find your
querencia?
Is it in people, places,
or something else?
Come visit all the Tea Tuesday bloggers
and our host Kimmie at
You can find your Querencia if you...
Savor the Day!

I loved coming here and learning something new. My querencia is the ocean. Any ocean will do.
Thanks so much for sharing this book and concept Yvonne. If I use this word three time-it will be mine!
Wow, Yvonne! I keep saying how much I learn when I visit on Tea Tuesday, but this is wonderful. I have to believe I find my querencia within myself. And I feel safe when I make art, hold Bleubeard in my lap, and answer messages on my blog. Thank you for this. It was quite informative. Happy Tea today!!
A new word to learn about -- cool!
I learned something again Yvonne!!
I'm in love with that chair!! The color and the vintage yumminess of it.
I always learn something when I visit your blog. Thank you for that.
So true that you learn something new each and every day Yvonne...thank you for sharing!
Love your turquoise chair...it's a classic!
Happy T day to you

I'm with Halle- I like your chair too! Great word. Querencia. Mine is at home, in the morning, at my dining room table, whther I am making art, browsing blogs or writing letters. A pot of tea is optional, but nice to have. ;)
Thanks for the word lesson!
Happy Tea day :) I believe I have a few Querencia places...
I have a friend whose name is Quirena - she goes by Cori which is much easier. I wonder if they are related words?
I think my Quirencia is when I lay my head down at night after a day well spent in love and kindness. A resting place I guess .....
Great question!

Thank you for giving and teaching me a new word...I am so busy I am almost afraid to sleep . But the work is taking patience and ficus so I am learning every day! Peace, Mary Helen
Now that's a word I've not heard before. Very interesting essay. I would say that most days, my querencia is right here on this sofa, either blogging or crocheting, especially when all is quiet around me. I need quiet. I like to be at home. I also love nature but hard to enjoy it in this country. Like the writer said, I get very grouchy when I don't find my querencia every day. :) But I'm with Kimmie too. At night, the best thing of all is laying my head down on that pillow. Sleep, sweet sleep! Best wishes to you, Tammy
