Fifty years as pen pals!

Yep, I said FIFTY years as pen pals!

That's how long my Irish friend Helen
and I have been writing letters.

Here I am, many moons ago,
with Helen and her family,
(husband John and kids Louise and Eaamon)
at their home outside Dublin.
She now has another daughter,
who is grown now,
named Yvonne.

Here is how it all began...

When I was 10 years old I wanted to collect stamps.
My dad suggested I write the mayor of any city
in the world to ask for a pen pal,
so I could collect stamps from all over.
So one of the city's I wrote to was Dublin.
I think my letter was put in the paper
and Helen saw it and began writing to me.
We are the same age, to the month.

It's amazing that we have kept in touch all these years.
Every letter has been very special,
as she is a very special friend.
Of course now, we correspond
more on Facebook or email. LOL
Oh how times have changed.
But, we still do write letters now and then.

Savor the Day!
Yvonne

How fabulous!! I lost touch with most of my pen pals over the years. Too many moves!

Love that you are still in touch.

Have a wonderful week xox

Oh wow Yvonne! That is absolutely fantastic. What a wonderful story. And how totally awesome that your dad suggested you do that and now after all these years you have a true blue (or maybe I should say green) friend. Ha! Best wishes, Tammy

Such a lovely story - and so nice that you're still corresponding. I did much the same thing back in 1967 as a 'centennial project' here in Canada and ended up corresponding with three different people around the world. One, in England, is still in contact.
