The Red Dragonfly

My visit to the Texas Hill Country last week
was full of all kinds of enchantments.

After a few days at my sisters,
I went to Kerrville
to visit my friend Lana.
She has a beautiful place
with her husband Willie.
It's called Elm Cottage
Sculpture and Meditation Gardens.
They have 2 cottages there now,
Elm Cottage and the The Canyon House B&B,
 Visit here.

We were sitting on her porch
 visiting and talking
when I saw the most beautiful
 red dragonfly.
I have never seen one before
 in my life.
I have been to Lana's
 many times
and used to live in the hill country,
but never have I seen
a red dragonfly
before that day.
He was  sitting on a plant
above her koi pond,
which is near her porch.
I was lucky to get a few photos.
He was very large and his tail looked like velvet.
He was gorgeous.
I say ' he ', but I'm not sure if it was a male or female of course.

Prior to visiting Lana,
Dennis Eaglehorse had told me to watch for
dragonflies
 as they are God's messengers.

Dragonfly's show us that life,
 like light,
can bend, shift,
and adapt in various ways,
 making life's appearance
never be what it appears to be.
 Dragonfly's magic shows us
to see through life's illusions.

Many believe that red dragonflies
are a symbol of eternal love.

I have always been drawn to dragonflies.
Once I have seen a swarm of dragonflies,
(but that's another story),
and it's not a very common site.

I wonder if the dragonfly is my animal totem?
I don't know.......
How does one know?

Do you have an animal totem?

The Lakota word for Dragonfly is Susbehcha.

It is believed that seeing a red dragonfly is a good omen or sign.

Do you believe in signs?

While I was sitting on the porch
 this very dragonfly
 flew over
and hovered right in front of me
 for several seconds.
I was in awe
and got goosebumps all over.
And still do...
 when I remember that moment.
It was beautiful.

Think of a beautiful moment
 in your life
that gave you goosebumps.
Do this every day.

It will help you to.....

Savor the Day!

Wow great great photos! So red...and so awesome against the green. I too think there is deep meaning when they appear :)
It is not by chance that they come to you.

Well, that's a first for me. What a beautiful dragonfly. How lucky it was that you could get so close to him/her for pictures.
And, yes to all your other questions. Panther and Red Fox. :)Bea

well if it isn't your totem, it sure is speaking to you and you must be able to personify the virtues of the dragonfly... I was taught that dragonfly represents masculine transformation... and he is gorgeous!!

A red dragonfly seems so fitting! That shade of red he wears is beautiful.

I was raised by a wonderful Auntie who showered me with love. She passed away from cancer 40 years ago.About 15 years ago my sweet husband built me a koi pond with a waterfall in our backyard.I was sitting at the pond talking to my Auntie telling her how she would LOVE this pond,it was so peaceful.A beautiful huge Red dragonfly landed next to me ,within a few inches. As I talked I felt that since my Auntie was always such a beautiful ,glorious ray of joy and hope to all who knew her, that if she visited me as a dragonfly ,she would be the most beautiful one I'd ever seen, just like this red one.She has continued her visits for many, many years now bringing comfort to all who meet her in my waterfall garden. She bring peace and comfort to all who visit my waterfall garden and she is dearly loved.

I was sitting out on my tractor, reading a favorite meditation book about restoration.. and a baby red dragonfly landed on my book. He stared at me as i stared at him. I had never seen a red one let alone a baby one. He landed and rested right on the words written in the book "Dvine Providence" time stopped and for a moment, two who existed without knowing each existed, met and saw eye to eye. After about 5 min of marveling at this remarkable creature, i put my hand to my mouth and blew it a kiss. As i did, it flew up and onward, high above the tree line and into the sun where i couldnt see it anymore. It taught me much. It does not envy, boast, worrie about taxes or whos president. It is not concerned with food, drink or flight. It doesnt concern itself with thoughts of "am i enough". It just exist to be the blessing it wad meant to be. :)

This prompted me to look for its meaning. Thank you for your website.
