Tea Day--dragonflies, dolls and dyeing

Happy Tea on Tuesday!
I just finished my 1.5 mile walk with my friend
and before going into the city I wanted to
slow down and take a few moments to have some tea.
My friend Karen brought me some tea bags this morning,
some I had never tried before.
(I love trying new teas!)
This one is STASH premium
double spice chai black tea.
It is delicious!
Full of cinnamon, allspice, cardamom, cloves,
coriander and nutmeg.
Mmmmm good!  Thanks Karen!
This will surely start my day out right!
Here you see a dragonfly....
it is actually a cast iron door knocker
that I haven't put up yet.
Of course I love dragonflies and you can read about
my RED dragonfly experience here....
The doll you see here is one I made awhile back.
She is one of my favorites and one I will keep.
The linen, which is something else I like to collect,
if from my Italy trip a few years ago.
When I was in Italy I found table linens that had dragonflies on it.
It was perfect.
I no longer have a table to fit it, but I throw the tablecloth
over the little sofa in the entry
and then I made pillows from 2 of the napkins.

I am in the process of de-cluttering and rearranging my home.
We have only been here for 2 years
and I'm learning what works and what doesn't.
Getting rid of the things that I don't just absolutely love
has made me feel pretty good actually.
I love books, but have learned to pass on many of them,
and just keep my very best favorites.

I guess purging is good for the soul in a way.

Oh yes, almost forgot,
do you want to see my latest project....

This is a piece of fabric that several of us dyed
over at my friend Shirleys.
She called me and ask if I wanted to use the whole piece
to create something
for my August Merit show at the art center.
I was thrilled!
My friend Brenda saw a tree near the top of the piece,
so I am going to run with it.
Lots of stitching will go in this piece,
for the tree and the strata layers below.
It is about 3 ft. by 4 ft.
Any other suggestions from all you talented people out there!

That fabric is gorgeous ... It makes me think of the desert southwest and the amazing sunsets there. I am sure you will create something stunning!

Happy Tuesday!

No doubt that tea is scrumptious. For a true Indian chai, you gotta put some carnation milk in there and have some chapati to go with it. :) Your artwork is lovely. Sounds like you already have a fabulous plan for that fabric. Best wishes, Tammy

Love the doll, the fabric, the dyed piece and of course, the tea.
So much to do this time of year.
I really want to go play in the studio but plants must be planted in the garden. :)Bea

What wonderful fabric you have to play with. I'm not sure I could use anything that pretty. I'm impressed with your decluttering efforts and how you know what works and what doesn't. Happy tea today.

Yum, chai tea. I agree with Tammy---you must add a splash of milk to the chai tea. Once I locate the link(s), I will send you a post with a "healthy" recipe for homemade chai tea. One of my dear friends is from India and she makes it for me when we visit; but every time she makes it she uses different spices, depending upon what she has on hand, so she uses a "little bit of this & that" & of course she never measures. I tease her that she refuses to give me an accurate recipe (lol). Each time it's different & each time it's delicious!

Yvonne,
The fabric will speak to you, and the good energy of all the artistic women that helped create it will flow through it & you will ultimately discover the direction to take! Trust your instincts and you can't go wrong.
P.S. I did see a tree.
Brenda :)

Thanks Brenda for your comments. I do love the fabric and will start on it soon. I would love a chai tea recipe, so I could make my own. That sounds great. Thanks.

Hi Yvonne,
I found the recipe I mentioned for healthy chai tea. You can find it here: http://bitze.wordpress.com
It's entered under "Yogi Tea* the original chai, posted on October 9, 2008.
It was wonderful to see you at Michael Nye's photography exhibit "Children of Children"---the audio stories adjacent to the photographs were quite compelling, some of the stories brought people to tears!!
