Kairos Gallery show and Padre Turtles

Kairos Gallery Show

 Watercolor students of Dolores Price
had their annual show and sale
at Kairos Gallery this last Friday,
so I got to be involved this year.
We had about 150 or more people for the reception,
and more over the weekend.

There was lots of great food, wine and punch for everyone.

Dolores, shown here, is such a wonderful instructor
and artist.  It is great for her to put on this show
for us every year.
Thanks Dolores!

Padre Turtles

Last week I went with my friend Karen to see a
Ridley Turtle release.
It was the greatest thing.
Just made me smile all over!
Thanks Karen.

The Kemp's Ridley sea turtles are making a comeback,
thanks to many people who have found and protected nests.
This day over 80 baby turtles were released.

The eggs are taken to a special place to hatch,
and when they are ready, they are released on the beach,
so they get an imprint to return to the same place.

The closer they got to the water,
the faster they wanted to go. :)
Nets etc. are used to protect the babys from gulls.
Crowds gather at many of the releases,
excited to see the baby turtles head for the water.
Here in this photo, the waves are catching the first little turtles
and taking them out to the Gulf of Mexico.
Everyone clapped and were smiling the whole time.  :)

Padre Island National Seashore
protects the longest stretch of undeveloped barrier island in the world.
There is always something spectacular to see here.
Take some time to observe your surroundings,
wherever you may go.
I wish you PEACE....

Savor the Day!
Yvonne

Your horse painting caught my eye right away, Y. Still love it. Wish I coulds been with you to see the baby sea turtles. Topsail Beach where I go is also a sea turtle nesting site, but I've never gotten to experience the hatchlings.

Your exhibit is awesome and the brushstrokes make me want to paint right now. I participated in a turtle release while I was in residency in Australia. What a miracle these little babies survive their journeys. i wish you Peace every day! Love you, Mary Helen

I also love the horse painting. How exciting to be involved in the show! I've been to Padre Island, and it's one of the loveliest spots on the planet. God bless those who protect these special creatures!

I just love everything about this post. It seems to be all about nurturing :)

The kemp's ridley is an amazing little turtle. I would never have known anything about them except for last year's oil spill. Those little guys made the news in a big way - and I'm so glad there are many human protectors and nurturers for them :)

I don't know why you haven't been able to leave comments on my blog. Is there an error message? I know there have been a few blogger issues here and there ..... I hope things get fixed soon!

How great to see your pictures of the turtle release - it must have been thrilling to see in person. I'm with the other comments on how great your horse painting is - congrats.

Wonderful exhibit. One of my greatest memories is of watching the turtles on a family vacation.
