Every Inchie Monday---5 inchies

WhooHoo!
I know it's Sunday,
but I'm playing catch up.
I am now caught up,
AGAIN.
For the last 5 weeks
I have just not
done my inchies for the
I finally sat down
and did it.
Here they are
 for these prompt words...
sweet
love
books
nest
 sunset

For 'sweet' I thought of the sweet scent of flowers.

The word 'love' brought to mind family of course,
that's a given...but then I thought of how much I love art.

'Books' are 'stuff to read' cut out from Cheap Joe's art catalog.

'Nest' is a very 3 dimensional inchie, using a bird shaped bead,
an embroidery floss nest, and a feather.

'Sunset' was just cut out of a magazine.  I thought it looked pretty.

All were created on used watercolor paper
with the weekly prompt word cut out of an old dictionary.
All of my inchies have been simple and similar in style.
I can hardly believe I've done 31 inchies so far!
Hopefully I can keep up every week,
but no promises.
Next weeks prompt word is
RUST.
That will be interesting!

Blueberry red and a fiber art WIP

Happy tea day to all of you!

Today, it is just too hot for anything else but
Blueberry Red organic artisan iced tea
by Rishi tea.

I love this rich, wonderfully refreshing iced tea.
It is fruity and tart and has for ingredients the following....
rooibos, hibiscus, licorice root, blueberries
and natural strawberry flavor.
I picked it up at World Market last week.
Another thing I like about this tea
is its large quart size pouches.
They work wonderful in fiber art pieces.

Speaking of fiber art....
I have everything ready for my Merit show in August,
so now I am getting ready for another show
that my fiber art society group is doing.
This show is called,
"Much Made from Small Pieces" a World View.
It's about your feelings,
pictures or inspirations of world peace, unity,
and the one mind of the
'People of the World' for good.
The reception is Sept. 29
and the show will run for approx. 30 days.

Here is the beginning of my project...

The piece must be 24 by 34 approx.
I am creating it on hand dyed fabric.
The piece is a tree of life or mother nature goddess,
with the roots, canopy etc.
in the shape of a 'peace' sign.
I will be doing lots of free motion stitching,
and possibly painting,
after I fuse everything down.
Interpret this piece how you will.

As my fiber art president Happy Jonas said....
"Peace is within us
and we reflect it out into our daily lives.
We are the small pieces
weaving our feelings into the whole fabric,
strong and present."

So, stay cool everyone
and go enjoy the rest of the tea day posts here...

Felting Day

My friend Laura invited me over to join her
and some others for a 'felting day'.

Meet Laura,
a very talented artist,
having fun dyeing fabric with Kool-aid,
 in this photo.

Below is Nancy (and one of Laura's dogs),
modeling a coat that was needle felted by Laura.
It is very unique and beautiful!
For felting day,
Laura had lots of beautiful colors of roving to choose from.
Some were hand dyed.
Ginger is working on getting this beautiful hand dyed, blue roving,
 pulled out very thin
for a project that her and Laura are working on.

Nancy was working at the felting machine below.
She brought this wool jacket over to work on.
It had gotten moth holes in it she said.
So she decided to embellish it with different yarns,
using the felting machine.
This machine has many needles to felt with,
and NO THREAD!
It is an amazing embellishing machine.
This is the front after embellishing.

Here is the back,
and it looks great!

Laura has even made felted beads for making jewelry.

Have you ever felted?
Leave me a link to show what you have done.
Or tell me what you favorite felting book is.

Tea day art doll

I hope all of you are staying cool out there.
It has really been hot and dry here in south Texas.
I try to get out early,
take my walk and work in the yard.
Then it is inside stuff for me,
whether it is creating at home,
or going to indoor activities elsewhere.
By evening it is starting to cool off again,
just a bit,
so my DH and I are sitting in our backyard swing,
enjoying the breeze,
watching the birds,
and listening to
the sound of the cicadas.

What do you do when it is HOT outside?
***

Yesterday I created a polymer clay art doll.
This doll will hang on my wall.

She is 16 inches tall and 6 inches wide.

Sticks, fabric, yarn, wire and a feather were used,
and
I used acrylics to paint her.

Today IS tea day...
Every morning I still drink my homemade chai.
I just love this stuff!
Just the process of grinding up all the spices etc.
is something I enjoy.
It makes me slow down and enjoy the little things.
It starts my day out right.

After my one or two cups of chai,
it is iced water, iced tea or lemonade from then on.
The main thing is to keep hydrated in this heat.

Chai Everyday

Since I got this wonderful homemade chai recipe,
I have really enjoyed making and drinking
this wonderful drink,
almost every day.
Such a pleasure!

First,  find you a good chai tea recipe.

Grind up the spices!
I had cinnamon, black and green cardamom,
peppercorns and cloves.

Bring them to a boil with some water,
 for 4-5 minutes,
add the tea leaves,
boil a bit longer,
add the milk and sugar,
 and simmer.
Turn off and let it steep for 1-2 minutes...
Strain into your tea cup...

and enjoy!

So, do some searches,
find something that sounds like you may want to try it,
and give it a shot.
It's easy, it's fun,
it's one small way to....

Tea Tuesday Amazing Oddments

Happy Tea Tuesday!
I have a few odd things to share with you this morning.
First with my new favorite tea!
I recently read about
Gunpowder Tea.
I found some in the Middle eastern market.

Ahmad Tea (London)
makes what is called
The Vert (green tea) Gunpowder
or The Vert de Chine.
Fresh leaves of tea are plucked, steamed,
pan dried and tightly rolled into
"green pearls".
I put a few of the 'pearls' into my lidded
 tea strainer cup,
add hot water,
put the lid on and let the infusing magic begin.

The 'pearls' explode like gunpowder to create a clear,
amber drink that is very good,
and actually has the lowest caffeine content of all teas.
It is amazing!

Hope everyone had a great 4th of July weekend!
Here is a sad amazing fact....
 53% of Americans
do not know the year of our independance
or who we gained our independance from.

***
I saw the strongest animal in the world last night!
Yes, believe it or not, it was a 'rhino' beetle,
horns and all!
Sorry I wasn't fast enough to get a photo for you to see him,
but this beetle was amazingly large,
probably 3-4 inches in length.
He was tapping on my window,
I went over to check out the noise....
saw him spread his wings,
then he flew away!
I just read that they can lift over 850 times their weight!
Amazing!

Earthstars

These little fungi type mushrooms were found in my yard
after we had a rain.
I always think of the gnomes or elfin folk
and the land of make believe
when I see things like this.
All kinds of stories creep into my head
about these amazing icons of fairyland.

***

Whether you try a new tea,
learn something new,
see something rare or odd,
just take in all those amazing and wonderful things
 and.....

Savor the Day!
