This week I've been practicing
the wet on wet watercolor technique.
First I drew out this swan
(11 by 15 inch)
then completely wet the paper,
and let it sit for about 15 minutes.
My puddles of pigment were prepared
while waiting on the water to soak in.
I then used a rolled up towel to roll over the paper,
to absorb any excess water.
Then I began to paint.
I used a 1 in. flat brush and a #10 round.
After the watercolor pigments were dry
I added black acrylic paint
onto the beak.
Lastly I spattered some white paint
here and there.
Chapter 5 in Watercolor Wisdom
by Jo Taylor shows lots of different techniques.
I will be trying a few more this week.
Savor the Day!

That's gorgeous. I can't get the hang of wet on wet. I seem to have no control at all when I try it. But you've really got a great picture there.
OMG Yvonne, that is incredible!! beautiful work!! can't wait to see more!
Nice! Wet on wet is difficult but you've got a talent for it, clearly.
Oooo...very pretty, and an eyecatcher with its gradual transition from vague to realistic images. You seem to be mastering watercolor, have fun!
Left a comment, then lost it. Just wanted to say how perfectly you seem to be matching watercolor! I like the gradual transition from vague to realistic images. Well done!

So pretty. And thanks for sharing the process - even with us poor souls who will never, ever have a reason to use it. It's still very interesting to me.
Gorgeous!

Very beautiful swan!! I certainly envy you your talent with a paintbrush.
Thanks everyone. I just gave this to my sister for her birthday. She really loved it!
nice work! I love your saturated colors .... my colors tend to be more muted - but that's how things look up here - especially on a rainy day!
Gorgeous artwork!

I do like the way this turned out. I've been wanting to do the wet on wet for awhile, might as well, just go for it. Blessings, Janet PPF
