Whimsical bench...winged bed...

During the week I worked on finishing a bench my husband made using mostly scraps of wood we had on hand.  We did have to buy a few 1 by 4's for the seat.  The arm is actually part of an old wooden ironing board (the sleeve board). I decided to use some blue paint we had left over from other projects, then distressed it a bit, painted a bird on a branch (partly freehand partly stencil) and finally added 3 coats of polyurethane on top.  I designed this piece... I wanted something whimsical and the shape of the scrap wood we used dictated just how it would be in the end.  So here it is....Total cost about 30 dollars.

We are almost finished with this next project....our queen bed.

This is what is called a 'wing' headboard.  Total cost $140.00....and there is scrap wood left over for more projects.  WhooHoo!!!!
Now to stain it and polyurethane it for durability.
I will be showing photos when it's coompletely finished....sometime this week.
I just love it!

Hope your days are warm, full of creativity and joy!

Savor the day!
Yvonne

Your house is definitely one that should be going on the local house tour to show what can be done on a budget and yet be beautiful at the same time.

The bench back makes me think of a grand piano top...the shape.
The bed is going to be really great...looking forward to the finished product.
