Spring days and interesting plants....

Yesterday my friend Karen and I visited some plant nurseries.
It awakens the senses, to say the least.

"I have found, through years of practice,
that people garden in order to make something grow;
to interact with nature;
to share, to find sanctuary, to heal,
to honor the earth, to leave a mark.
Through gardening,
we feel whole
as we make our personal work of art
 upon our land."
- Julie Moir Messervy, The Inward Garden, 1995, p.19

I came home with several plants for the yard
and the patio.
My patio, as you see below,
is quite bare of plants.
There are a few,but
I wish to fill it up.

This is looking out from my living/dining area
into the patio and backyard.
I would love to look out into
a plant filled sanctuary.

The patio has morning sun and bright light
throughout the day.
Perfect for many types of plants.

This is a tillandsia or air plant.

I bought a few of these
to add to an old log I had....
for interest.
All I did was immerse the little tillandsias in water overnight,
then added spagnum moss to the holes
in the log...
then placed the air plants securely in the moss.
I just have to immerse them in water every other week or so,
or mist them every day.
No soil required.
to find out more about these amazing plants.

Bromiliads and staghorn ferns
are unique and beautiful.
I came home with a baby one of each.

I don't have them in their permanent home yet,
but thinking of putting the staghorn fern
on another log and mounting it to the patio wall.
The bromiliad, well I'm not sure about that one yet.

Any tips about any of these plants would be appreciated.

I purchased a few pygmy palm trees
for my front yard,
so now I'm off to plant those beauties.

Nothing like spring days
and interesting plants
 to help you....
Savor the Day!

Lovely plants - really do wish I could get something to grow in our windows in the apartment but we face east now and there just isn't enough light for most things to survive. Sorry I can't help you with any suggestions for your plants!

I went out this afternoon after the first real good rain...and my mind began to wander... what if? Our Wilson's garden center has its open house this weekend...I am going to try to make my way over there for inspiration. If they do not have it or know it....no one in the area does. Peace, Mary Helen Fernandez Stewart

Your patio is a lovely space. Always a nice day when you can buy plants to spruce things up. Think I'll go water plants on my balconies now. Best wishes for a great day. Tammy

You are off to a luscious start. I've always been intrigued by air plants. They are amazing!
