Moon Gate is up

I've been unplugged for a week or more.... for different reasons.
  The beautiful weather is one,
but mainly
I had surgery last week,
and getting online just wasn't in my schedule.
Nothing serious.
All is well.

During this down time
my husband has been working
on our backyard fence.
The fence we decided on
 is what's called a
'good neighbor' fence,
instead of a 'privacy' fence.
The pickets are on both sides and looks good from both sides,
but mainly the wind comes through,
and that's a good thing here in South Texas.
The thing I am really excited about is
my variation of a 'moon' gate.

We've had this metal ring,
and the brass bells for many years,
and I always knew we would use them for something.
They go prefectly in my
moon gate.
The gate is 5 feet wide and about 7 feet tall,
putting the 'moon' at just about eye level.
You can see through the moon
to the back part of the fence
in these photos, and as you can see, we only have one side
of the pickets up so far.
At least while we are finishing up,
the wildlife can't eat my garden anymore.

Now, one more thing to finish it off....
I want to burn some words
into the wooden arbor above the gate...
coming in and going out.
Any thoughts on that?

Spring is here,
so soon I will be planting seeds.
How about you?

Now that I'm feeling better,
I want to catch up on
all your blog posts too.
I know you all have been busy,
as usual,
 creating and doing wonderful things.

Savor the Day!

Mint tea and a potager

I've been unplugged for about a week,
because the weather has just been gorgeous.
Spring is here!
I've been outside digging in the dirt every day,
planting my flower beds and
preparing my garden beds.
I'm a bit late on that but,
drought plus wildlilfe plus no fence equals no garden.
So, for the past few weeks we've been working on putting up a fence
to take care of that issue.
I usually like to plant vegetables, herbs and flowers
all together,
like an old fashioned potager garden.
I've been sitting here this
Tea on Tuesday morning,
drinking my mint tea,
in my vintage tea cup
(a tea cup swap gift)
thinking of what I will be planting.

I love different kinds of mint,
and putting a sprig or two in my tea is wonderful.
So mint will surely be in my potager garden this year.

Potager Garden Definition: (pronunciation: puh ta zhay)
a garden that combines both edible
and ornamental plants;
a vegetable garden that is utilitarian in nature
but designed with beauty in mind.
I love the idea of a potager garden.
I will make use of the herbs and flowers
as much as the vegetables.

Now I'm thinking of a name for my
enclosed yard/garden.
Photos to come later of the fence
and my 'moon' gate.

Savor the Day!
