"I used to love night best
but the older I get
the more treasures
and hope and joy
I find in mornings."
~Terri Guillemets
Even though it was cold (56 degrees F is cold for here)
I bundled up and went for a drive a few morings ago,
to see the sunrise over the bay.
Below is a White Heron (great egret).
He was out fishing for his breakfast.
There were a few of these herons around the dock,
but too fast for me to get a good picture
of 'the catch'.
Before I knew it they had caught a fish,
and swallowed it.
They hunt very slowly and methodically,
but once they see something,
they are extremely fast.
Docked boats on the Laguna Salada (salt lake),

A faded and old, yet functional, purple martin house.
Purple martins will return to the same nesting site,
year after year. Purple martins can live
up to 13 years, if they're lucky.

A new roadside memorial...
These handmade memorials were erected to honor loved ones who died near or on a highway in an unexpected and sudden manner,
usually from a car accident.
Very common here.

This is the
Crested CARACARA.
He is also called a
Mexican Eagle.
He is actually part of the
Falcon family of birds.
Very common here.
Large bird ....
23 inches tall and 50 inch wingspan.
Below was the mornings
waning crescent moon.
May you touch dragonflies and
talk to the moon.
Savor the Day!

We love purple martins here on the prairies because they eat massive amounts of mosquitoes. Lots of people (especially in smaller towns and in rural areas) put up massive purple martin birdhouses to lure them to their vicinity.
Lovely imGes, Yvonme! Very regal bird folk!
What a beautiful post today...I am cleaning out my bedroom closet...and this task is way over due! I always think of you now when I see dragonflies. Peace be with you. Mary Helen Fernandez Stewart
Looks like it was a peaceful, beautiful morning. Lovely images. Great moon shot. I haven't seen it lately here -- must be in a position hidden from my view (too many buildings going up around us). Have a great week. Tammy

I love mornings the best...
I've never seen a picture of a Crested Caracara - very elegant bird!!
It is always worthwhile to go out seeking life .... I love your snapshots of it. Oh - and 56 in the early morning would be quite warm here - just sayin ;)
