"Flowers have spoken to me more than I can tell in written words.
They are the hieroglyphics of angels,
loved by all men for the beauty of the character,
though few can decipher even fragments of their meaning."
---Lydia M. Child
Happy Paint Party Friday!
I love flowers!
The flowers here are starting to bloom,
more and more each day.
I decided that a floral painting
would be appropriate
for this week's PPF photo,
since Spring is well under way.
This is how I did it...
First I sketched the vase and flowers loosely.
Then I did an under painting on wet paper,
letting the colors run.
I put certain colors of paint in places where I knew
flowers and leaves would be,
background and foreground.
That layer had to dry well before going on.
Using three different brushes and mixing colors,
I painted in the foreground flowers and leaves a bit more,
leaving hard and soft edges.
Then that layer dried well.
The next layer was detailing everything just a bit more.
I like to keep things abstract and loose,
with just the illusion of what it is.
After that layer was dry
I put in the centers of just a few flowers.
Lastly, with a liner brush,
I put in some twirly things,
and splashed different colors here and there.

Very Pretty!! The colors are striking :)
nice....I'm such a tight painter...wish I could be a little freer. I like this look.
Beautiful. Loose and very soft. I like it. Happy PPF!
The free flow of watercolor matches the flower very well. It makes the flower very inviting to the viewer. Well Done! And I love the color you used for the vase shadow. Just gorgeous. Nice work! ;)
Gorgeous colors! Love it!
Beautiful, one of my favorite subjects to paint. Love your style on this painting.
lovely painting Yvonne!
Beautiful! I like this style so free. Greetings.
I love this loose, abstract style. Your flowers are beautiful! Loving those colors! VERY nice!
Your style really speaks to me whether your subject matter is flowers or horses! I love how loose you keep it with just enough detail to balance and enhance the looseness. Just beautiful!
Happy PPF!

I like it. I have a few bloggie buddies that are taking classes and they've been told to do a "loose" painting. I need to learn this. You've done a great job, I love your flowers and the colors.
Thanks for your comments. I have practiced the loose style by standing while painting and using larger brushes.
I like this very much! :-)
Yvonne,
This is lovely and so perfect for spring.
I love the looseness of this piece and your description of how you achieved it. Wonderful.
Loose and lovely...wish I could paint that way. I always try to get too much detail into everything. (Says a lot about me...lol)
Anyway, great work! I like your style and the colors you used make this the perfect spring bouquet! Happy PPF!
I love this type of water color. I always think this look would make a great greeting card!

You did a phenomenal job! I love the colors and the loose look of the painting. I'm trying to learn how to do that but have not quite accomplished that yet.

Wonderful use of color and perfect for spring!
Beautiful result. ..... And I love hearing the process! I will try that ..... My work is very segmented .... Which works for me, but sometimes feels too restrained
This has a really pretty softness to it - thanks for sharing your technique!
