I love big old trees, don't you!
I came across this one up in the sand hills of central Texas.
It's an oak and at least 8 feet in diameter, maybe more.
Big old trees like this one can talk,
but you have to know how to listen.
Advice from a Tree...
Sink your roots deeply into the Earth
Reflect the light of a greater source
Think long term
Think long term
Go out on a limb
Remember your place among all living beings
Embrace with joy the changing seasons
For each yields its own abundance
The Energy and Birth of Spring
The Growth and Contentment of Summer
The wisdom to let go of leaves in the Fall
The Rest and Quiet Renewal of Winter.

Below is an old building crying out to be painted in a picture.
I may try this one in watercolor
for my upcoming new classes with Dolores Price.
This building was originally a school house in a little Texas
German community
called Denhawken.
Later on it was many other things,
including a dance hall (my husband and I went dancing there once).
There is more building behind what you see here,
but it consumed by brush and trees.
Empty old buildings can talk,
but you have to know how to listen.
Savor the Day!

What a great subject Yvonne. Especially since you and your husband once danced there! I also believe that trees, buildings, old doorways, actually anything can talk-it is just up to us to listen. Nice post!
I'm not sure if my comment went through but just wanted to say that I think that old building is a perfect subject for you to paint-especially since you and your husband once danced there. Will be watching for the finished product on your blog. Nice post.
what a great poem about the tree..love big oak trees and we have several nearby
I love these kind of old treasures .... I so agree about how they can speak - if we listen - especially the trees.
I love that old building! I have a fascination for old barns and would love to get time someday to try creating them in cloth. It's a dream--who knows if it will ever happen!
I like that saying about the trees. Lovely! And the old building would definitely make a fabulous painting. Have a great weekend. Tammy
